4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
Maryland 4-H Military Programs
Maryland 4-H Military Projects are a statewide, outreach effort in which 4-H Professionals, military staff, and volunteers are implementing 4-H curricula into existing military programs.
Military youth (ages 5-19) are becoming involved in 4-H through their county/city Extension office and local installations. Maryland also supports Army and Navy 4-H military club programs in Europe.
Maryland 4-H partners with Operation Military Kids to meet the needs of geographically dispersed military youth.

"Welcome Home Gardens" - April 2012
Thanks to the generous contribution from Burpee Seeds we have been promoting "Welcome Home Gardens" for military families, veterans. Each 4-H unit received a promotion packet at our recent 4-H Team Retreat. Please help us / help Burpee get these seeds - and gardens distributed across to returning solders across Maryland. As George Ball, CEO, Burpee Seeds states "the monetary value pales compared to both the physical and the psychological benefits of gardening, a process that can be shared by the whole family."
We have provided seed packets to our 4-H Club Programs at each of our Maryland Military Installations, to "Welcome Home" events through OMK and will have packets at our 4-H Military Projects table at Maryland Day.
If you have 4-H groups willing to plant a Welcome Home Garden in your community - please let us know. We want to honor our returning military - make it can be a part of your local clubs' Head/Heart/Hands and Health - this project is all about our 4-H's.
Attached you will find the letter from Mr. Ball and the form to report "Welcome Home Garden" distribution. Contact Jayne (jfitz@umd.edu) / Alisha (alishat@umd.edu) or Sandy (corridon@umd.edu) if we can help us distribute and GROW "Welcome Gardens" in your area.
