4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
4-H Science
“One Million New Scientists. One Million New Ideas.™”
4-H, the youth development program of the Cooperative Extension System of the United States Department of Agriculture and the Land-Grant Universities across the country, has been providing education and hands-on learning for youth in science, engineering and technology for over 100 years.
Each day, youth across the state of Maryland are:
- Exploring – by participating in hands-on science, engineering, and technology learning experiences through the Maryland 4-H Youth Development Program. 4-H SET Programs range from animal, plant and human sciences to robotics, GIS/GPS, and computer technology.
- Empowered – through these experiences youth see first-hand how they can make an impact in their community and in the world using the wonders of science.
- Inspired – Maryland 4-H programs spark kids’ imaginations and long-lasting passions for science, engineering and technology so that they pursue science careers and become the next generation of scientists.
Last year, over 30,000 Maryland youth were reached through 4-H Science, Engineering, and Technology programs. The University of Maryland 4-H Youth Development program is part of the National 4-H initiative, “One Million New Scientists. One Million New Ideas,” which aims to attract one million new youth to 4-H science, engineering, and technology programs by 2013.

Maryland 4-H Aerospace Challenge
Great News for 4-H Aerospace Enthusiasts! The Maryland 4-H Aerospace Challenge is back. It will take place on Saturday, July 14 from 9 am-3 pm. In order to prepare for this State Challenge, a workshop will be held on June 30th from 9 am - 2pm. - posted May 22, 2012
4-H National Youth Science Day
The 2012 National Science Experiment for 4-H National Youth Science Day has been released. The 4-H Eco-Bot Challenge will introduce youth to engineering concepts as they program a self-directed robot to clean up a simulated environmental spill. - posted May 22, 2012
