A Quick Look At Projects

Understanding how projects are organized will enable you to help members select an appropriate project. This brief list highlights information found on the Project List and the Maryland 4-H Center Publication/Project Resource List. Refer to these documents for additional information. The information shown includes the project area and project number (this number is used to track projects in the database, it is not the project manual number), the number of levels and the source of the manual. The next lesson explains how to order project manuals.

Learning Check

Maryland 4-H projects are organized into three broad categories including Animal Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Human Sciences. Are your members interested in projects from one of these categories more than the others?

Most Maryland 4-H project manuals are published by the Cooperative Curriculum System (CS). These project manuals are bright, colorful and written in age appropriate language. What has been your experience in working with your members using CS products?

Most project work is done by members independently at home but many clubs have been successful doing group projects. What has your experience been with a whole club project?
